Stavanger – your host city
Stavanger is Norway’s fourth largest city, with about 115 000 inhabitants. The city has a typical Western Norway climate, with a beautiful spring season. The Old Town in Stavanger contains Northern Europe’s bestpreserved collection of wooden buildings, and is really worth a visit.
Stavanger has been appointed European Capital of Culture in 2008. The city will throughout the year present cultural expressions from all over the world, through the slogan “Open Port”.
Stavanger and the surrounding region is the home of a large amount of brass bands and wind bands. If you like to play in bands, this is a great place to live!

The bands come in all sizes, and they range from the small local school bands to the reigning Norwegian brass band champions, Stavanger Brass Band. Stavanger Brass Band is one of the best brass bands in Europe, has won four out of the five last Norwegian Championships, and has had great success working across different musical genres.

The Norwegian Band Federation and the local bands in the Stavanger area are officially “Artistic Ambassadors” for the entire European Capital of Culture, Stavanger 2008. In June, bands from all over Norway will participate in a national band festival in Stavanger.
