The European Brass Band Association (EBBA) and The Scottish Brass Band Association are delighted to announce that 33 soloists from across Europe will be competing in the 6th European Soloist Competition, with the competition's 4 rounds taking place in Perth, Scotland from 27th April - 1st May 2014.
The 33 competitors, representing 12 European countries will be adjudicated by the collective musical talents of Alan Morrison (England), Simone Rebello (England), Frode Amundsen (Norway) and Kasper Thaarup (Denmark). The preliminary rounds commence on Sunday 27th April at  North Inch Campus, Gowans Terrace Perth and on Monday and Tuesday at  St Leonards in the Fields Church, Perth, with the 2nd round on Monday 28th and the semi-finals taking place at the same venue on Tuesday 29th. The competition then culminates at 7.30pm on 1st May with a gala concert in Perth Concert Hall, featuring the 3 selected finalists. Each will perform a major work for their instrument, accompanied by the Kirkintilloch Band, and the gala concert will then conclude with a performance by the 2014 European Youth Band prior to the awards ceremony.

EBBA President, Ulf Rosenberg commented: "The European soloist competition is an prestigious event and attracts some of the finest soloists from across Europe. The finalists we had last time in 2010 in Linz, Austria, was the internationally renowned players Glenn Van Looy, Katrina Marzella and Harmen Vanhoorne, which is a clear indication of the quality of performers this competition attracts.

It is once again impressive to see that this year's competition, the 6th in its history, welcomes so many brass and percussion instrumentalists to the stage, representing a wide variety of European countries, and offering an exciting opportunity for audiences to enjoy this undoubted collection of musical talent.
As a key event in the European Brass Band Championship series, the 6th European Soloist Competition looks set to be another significant success."

Tickets for the finals and gala concert on 1st May at Perth Concert Hall, Perth, Scotland are available to purchase from the Box Office (www.horsecross.co.uk), priced £10.00. [END TEXT]
