The 3 finalists for the European Soloist Competition for Brass & Percussion are known and we like to introduce you to them.
Lionel Fumeaux (bass-trombone), Felix Geroldinger (baritone) and Luc Geraats (tuba) have been chosen by a distinguished jury team existing of Simone Rebello, Martin Winter and Tormod Flaten to perform in the final a concerto accompanied by Brass Band Schoonhoven conducted by Russell Gray.
The final will start at Thursday 3 May, 20:00 hrs in the Herz - TivoliVredenburg.
Below a short bio of the 3 finalists and we like to wish them success during their performance in the final.
Lionel started his musical career as a 7-year-old boy at the "Cécilia d'Ardon" in Valais, Switzerland. In 2008 he changes to Basse Trombone and joins the B-Band of Brass Band Treize Etoiles.
The next steps in banding are joining "Concordia de Vétroz" in 2011 and finally and until today, he plays the Bass-trombone in the A-Band of Brass Band Treize Etoiles. Together with the band, he won the Swiss Open Contest in 2012, 2014 and 2015 and Brass Band Treize Etolies became Swiss Champion in 2014, representing the Swiss flags at the European Brass Band Championship the year after.
As a soloist, Lionel Fumeaux obtained several titles in Valais and no national level. In 2017, he won the Swiss National Championship of Brass Instruments all categories. In the current year, he was Swiss Champion for Trombones and became second in the overall final.
Luc Geraats (Netherlands, Weert, 1992) studied bass tuba at the ArtEZ School of Music in Zwolle, where he completed his Bachelor's study with Bernard Beniers in 2016. Since 2016 Luc is doing a Master's study at Bastuba at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he receives lessons from Perry Hoogendijk and David Kutz
In addition to his studies, Luc attended masterclasses from Hendrik Jan Renes, Hans Nickel, Rex Martin and Steve Rosse. In 2013 he did successful audition for the Mariniers Kapel. He playe with the orchestra for a year and a half. Luc regularly plays in orchestras such as the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, The Orchestra of the East, Philharmonie Zuid Nederland, Orkest de Ereprijs, Orchestra of the 21st century, Mariniers Kapel and the Royal Netherlands Air Force Orchestra.
Luc has played often with brass bands as well, he played as a guest player during the Dutch Nationals with brass band Rijnmond and Brassband Limburg. During the European Brass Band Championships of 2014, Luc played with Brassband Schoonhoven in Perth, Scotland.
Felix is born at 11th of February 1996 and living in Enzenkirchen, Austria. He took is his first lessons from his father Karl Geroldinger and later on the baritone by Fritz Loimayr, former solo trombonist of the Brucknerorchester Linz.
Since 2009 he studies trombone and baritone with Prof. Johann Reiter at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz. He is also regurly visiting Steven Mead for lessons and attending the Upper Austrian Academy for especially talented young musicians.
From 2009 on he attended the Musikgymnasium Linz, he graduated in 2014.
Since 2016 Felix is the principal baritone at Brass Band Oberöstereich. Felix has already a major list of prizes and awards.
